Its not only the apple but the orange each day that will keep the doctor away!
The orange is an excellent source of Vitamin C , which is an anti-viral , anti-bacterial and anti-stress agent.
It enhances the resistance of the body to:
 Promote healing of wounds, fractures, and bruises
 Prevent bleeding and bleeding of the gums
 Vitamin C is not stored so we need to give our bodies a dose every day!

There are times when our intake needs to be increased; during pregnancy, breast feeding, any illness, fever, infection or operation. Smokers need double the amount of non-smokers each day. Painkillers and tranquilisers may also result in a deficiency.

Citrus contains other vitamins and minerals, Vitamin A and certain B complexes, these enhance the body’s resistance to infections. Calcium is also present; this helps build strong bones and teeth. It has low sodium content, so is perfect for low salt diets. Carbohydrates present are sucrose, fructose and glucose, in balanced quantities, to maintain the blood sugar levels. Anti- oxidants, folic acid, and abundant Phytochemicals which are believed to aid the prevention of chronic health conditions including cancer and heart disease. Studies have shown a protective effect of citrus against cancers. The greatest evidence is for oesophageal, larynx, mouth and stomach cancers.

One orange contains 170 different phytochemicals and more than 60 flavinoids, which have anti-oxidant effects as well as anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour and blood clot inhibiting properties.
