Understanding Fructose
Home

When confronted with the word fructose, what springs to mind is that it is the sugar from fruit, correct? Well, almost. It is found in fruit, but not on its own, usually in combination with sucrose and glucose. In fact Fructose needs similar quantities of glucose to be taken, in order for it to perform its function within the body.

It must be healthier than sugar? As in all debates of this nature, various opinions and statements are made. Fructose could very well be a healthier alternative to our usual cane sugar. This does not mean that we no longer have to be concerned about the quantities of 'sugar' that we consume. A balance needs to be maintained at all times in our diet!

Fructose, along with glucose, is a simple sugar. Fructose and glucose combined, constitutes sugar, as we know it. The body has enzymes that break the sugar into the two components that can then enter the bloodstream. Fructose therefore relies on glucose for its passage into the blood.

Fructose, being a low GI, will benefit those on a weight loss program, with diabetes mellitus, hypoglycemia, and children, especially those with a tendency towards ADHD. Blood sugar levels are regulated by the intake of the sugar being much slower and less radical than that of cane sugar.

House of Juice ensures the balance of these sugars in their products.
